Dana 44 width vs amc 20?

I have access to a dana 44 from a jeep pick up. It is the propper drop and looks to be an easy swap to replace my stock fron axle in my 85 CJ 7. My only concern is how does it compare to my stock rear axle? Is it something I can space out enough to make it look right?

I do not want to go 44s front and rear as my rear is built and I do not have money to do both. The rear has a detroit locker, warn full floting conversion and is welded and trussed.

I am getting ready to sink money in the front end and lock it etc. but think it is better to spend it on the 44 instead of stock.

Maybe not such a good idea after all. Just thought that my wheels will end up with different Lug patterns as well.... Darn

What lug pattern is on the front D44? I assume the rear AMC 20 is 5 on 5.5". There are multiple ways to make the wheel patterns the same. I found a machinist in Colorado Springs last Friday who will machine chevy large bearing spindles to the spec of the rare chevy small bearing spindles. I did not ask what that cost but chevy large bearing spindles are easy to find and they are the hardest to find part of making a Jeep/chevy type front D44 have a 5 on 5.5" pattern.

if you've already upgraded the axles shafts and welded the tubes to the diff, you are in theory stronger then a 44.
the AMC 20 has a bigger ring gear, why swap it, you won't gain anything
