    GM 4.8L motor and transmission

I just got a 4.8 L v8 motor with a 4L80E transmission and all the accessories and wiring from a 2006 GM Chevy van express 2500. Iím planning to do the motor swap in my 93 I4 5 speed manual Jeep wrangler.

I was thinking that maybe I should wait and get a 5.7 or 5.3 motor but on the other hand I think this little motor with 70,000 miles and 295 hp should be a great upgrade right? I don't know much about transmission but this transmission (4L80E) looks strong and is still attached to the motor. I would like to keep this set up since it came like that from factory but Iím not sure if this set up is going to work with my transfer case. What are your opinions guys?

I use my jeep as transportation every day I have other cars but I love my wrangler it has 35" tires on a 4" inch lift and stock everything else. I know the tires are too big and the motor too small but I like the look.

I am the biggest rookie out there I can not even be called rookie because I haven't been on a trail, (I tried once but my jeep could not move the tires on a small hill and the clutch stared to smell funny and slipped) I want to start going to trails and that's why I want to do the swap, maybe it wasn't smart of my part to put such a big tires, but that was and excuse for my self to justify the motor swap.

That will be a great motor! IIRC, the trans is great too, but unless that was a 4wd van, it won't work with your transfer case. Be aware, it's not an easy swap, and all the little parts you end up needing add up. Once it done though, you'll love it!
Just so I don't feel like I should have said it, I'm going too...... I had to make that decision last year and chose the 6.0. I love it! You may save a little gas with the 4.8, but I get 14mpg on the highway with 37" tires. I doubt it could get much better then that and I love the power!
The only problem with them is you have to pay about twice as much for the 6.0
