    TJ Transmission in a YJ??

I already searched and really couldn't find what I was looking for and I need a quick answer before someone else buys it

My AX5 transmission is blown and I have a 1993

I found for sale on the NEOW forums an AX5 from a 97 or 98 TJ with 75,000 miles for $100.

    Will it fit??

I don't have time for a motor swap or AX15 swap even though I would love the benefits, the AX5 has to do.

Yes, it will work. I would recommend switching to an external slave cylinder if you have the option/ability. It is a much. much better system.

TJ's had medium length t-case 21 spline shafts from the t-case I believe. YJ's are short. I think there may be a slight difference due to that in the back of the ax5 on a TJ. The ax5 will bolt up no problem, but there have been instances of YJ shafts in the t-case not long enough to seat in the seal I believe. This can be addressed of course, IF this is the case, which it may or may not be. Also, TJ's transmissions are clocked 10 degrees different than YJ's I believe. This again is not a deal-breaker as it should still fit within the skid plate floorboard parimeters if both clocking options are not drilled into the mounting surface on the back of the TJ ax5. I believe these are possible things that may or may not arise with a TJ ax5.

I was told shifter is slightly further back (or forward, depending which way you're going) Just requires a minor bend to work.

I have a good working 1997 ax5 from a TJ that I aquired from a person who was doing a V8 conversion on standby. I have not needed it yet, amazingly. I believe somewhere in 1995, the t-case/21 spline shaft design changed (elongated-med length, as well as 23 spline), subsequently, depth changes onto the shaft mount area inside the back housing of the tj ax5. I am not 100% certain that my t-case is the med length style on my 1995, so I am not 100% certain that it will be a direct fit with zero things to address right out of the gate. But its possible it will work work my current 21 spline shaft. I will know for sure when I take my transfer case off to determine if my 95 models the tj length version. There may very well be cases of people having no problems swapping the tj ax5 right in with zero things to address, but that's not with 100% certainty as I originally thought myself I don't believe.
