Driving WJ Selec-Trac without Front driveshaft

I put new u-joints in my front driveshaft after I finished installing them I noticed a vibration coming from under my jeep. I thought maybe I'd knocked off a weight but upon inspection they're all accounted for. So my wife took it in for an oil change (the Mechanic is a friend, it costs me less to have him do it than just to buy the oil) But while doing the oil change she asked him to look at the shaft. He told her that he saw nothing wrong with the jeep but it could have been slightly bent and he couldn't see. He took the jeep for a drive and he too noticed the vibration. He said it could be a bent wheel or a wheel out of balance wich would explain why it only caused a vibration at speed (100+ km\h)

He suggested taking out the Front DS and take it for a drive to see if the vibration was still there thus eliminating the DS but I've read somewhere that with the select-trac T-case you can really damage the transfer case by driving without the front DS.

I just got the jeep a few months ago and I'm not too familiar with the whole driveline yet. Is that rumor true? Or was somebody spreading BS? Should I put in 4WD Fulltime to drive it without the DS?

Any Help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

2 wd is what you need in fullt ime 4wd it willnot go anywhere as the TC is an open diff in that mode.
