    WJ as a Race Rig?

I'm in the research stage about adding another jeep to the stable. We have an offroad racing series on the East Coast and one of the vehicles I was considering was a high mileage V8 WJ as my race rig. I am seeing them in the $5.5 to $6.5k price range and would budget another $2k on race parts.

That being said, I'm looking for any feedback on why a limited WJ would be a great idea or a horrible idea to use as my platform. I owned an '02 WJ Overland a few years ago and enjoyed it (BB'ed on 32"s), so I thought it may be fun to get back into them.

    Guidelines:

Races last around 2 hours per class. Side by side racing over dirt, rocks, some mud, whoops, hill climbs, tractor tires, etc. It is designed to be a poor man's KOH.
Three classes of rigs, A, B, and C. I would use this as an A class rig (stock mod).
I would be running 33" tires
    One locker (rear)
Trying to get the vehicle as light as possible
Needs to be reliable enough to last through 2 hours of racing
Currently not wanting to spend more than $2k on race parts
Parts would include tires, lift, any armor, drivetrain parts

I was thinking a 4" lift, 33"s, and an aussie for the rear. What other suggestions, based on the guidelines above? If you are bored, throw out some opinions! I saw where a WJ just won a jeepspeed event, but they have a little cash tied up in that one .

Also considering a Vehicross (same price range).

if your looking for something lightweight then i wouldnt waste 8500 on a wj to race. They are heavy to begin with.Do yourself a favor by a run down xj for 1000-1500 then youll have alot better budget to work with.Make sure to get 91+ seeing as how they have the 4.0HO. Or you can jump off the wagon find a tacoma or 4runner and add a supercharger.Just some suggestions. Looks like those people aint wheeling no 6500 rigs.

Try a ZJ, that would be cool. only a few guys are racing them. And if i were you, i wouldnt want to trash a 6500 dollar rig. As you can see, those vehicles get trashed.

Agreed^ No way would i destroy a 6500 rig for that. I still say a 4runner with a LT kit. So smooth and it doesnt look like that race involves many rocks or technical sections. Why was there a RZR in that race???
